Can you use a metal lathe for wood?
my brother broke my good cue it tapered to 9mm, i am pretty sure…. he brought me a new one today and its 12 mm it is like playing with a tree trunk to the other cue, i can’t even screw the ball that much compared to the other, i am thinking of taking the top half of the cue to school and using the metal lathe at school to taper it to 9mm or even 7 mm, is it possible to do?
Thanks much Appreciated

Yes you can. But the rpm should be 1000 or higher. Can the stick fit into the head stock?
it would be easier to buy a new stick.
Riley,
while I’m not an expert with the lathe, I’ve done a fair share of work on it. You could probably use the lathe with no problem on the wood, however, I think it would be difficult to find the absolute center point on both ends and then turn it down evenly. What I mean is with most wood, you basically find the center point, and then the lathe makes the small corrections during the turning process. In the case of a tapered cue stick, you make not find absolute center and in the process of turning down to a balanced turn, you may not have enough stock at the end,(especially the tapered point). You’re tlaking about turning and making it centered within 2mm. If you can good luck, but I’d be a bit leary.
I’ve thought about turning my own cue, but starting with larger stock of course. Anyway, good luck – hope it “turns” out well for you.
yep use mine for it all the time
