Cutting the base of a Bevel gear blank (must be very flat), on a Hendey tool & gagemakers lathe. The blank is held in a 3 jaw cushman chuck, & supported by the steady rest. The lathe speed is running about 300 rpm (in 2nd back gear), with a crossfeed of .001 (set to .002, but in belt drive, which is half of the gear drive). The part being cut is steel, 1 3/4″ diameter. The cutter is HSS. This is a finishing cut.
