It is my understanding that knurling tools do not “cut” the material but simply displace it. Because of this, knurling is often used to enlarge existing diameters where a friction fit can then be applied to two mating parts.
you said it needs to be a multiple of 1mm… so 9.37562739mm is a multiple of 1mm see:
9.37562739 X 1mm = 9.37562739mm

I have not knurled but suspected the diameter of the piece played a part in not over cutting the initial pattern. This helped, thank you.
Great vid helped me alot thanks
mike
Awesome, I have a knurling attachment but I’ve never known how to use it. Thanks.
I ONES MILLED MY SELF A LATHE AND THEN LATHED ME A NEW MILL

Thank you for another great video!
@hoarp001 knurlers don’t have a diamond pattern on them so you don’t have to line them up. One cuts the ///// and one cuts the \\, combined they make a diamond pattern on the stock.
But since your post was a year ago, you probably know that by now, hehe.
I like your pointm i canm with Knearl
I have not seen this type of knurler before looks easier to use .Thank you good vid.
Hi,
I think you want the “circumference” to be an even multiple of the pitch, not the diameter.
Hi Richie, I was just wondering if I could send you a DRAFT copy of the Kurl & Stock Size chart that I created and if you could just quickly look it over. I just want to be sure that I understand your “Tool Pitch to Stock Size” correctly. Do you have a contact address that I can email to?
I found this video to be helpful with a knurling problem that I was having. I created a size chart based off of what Richie said in the video and it worked for the various size knurl wheels that I have.
what’s the feeding rate?
Hi I am afraid there was an error on the threading video that someone complained about s I have removed it for now.
what happened to the threading vids. I need to watch them again.
Thanks.
No there is no need. The rollers on this type of knurler float to a certain extent so as long as the diameter of the work piece is a multiple of the knurling tool pitch the pattern should come out fine.
Do you not have to line up the two rollers so the pattern is lined up on both rollers?
thankyou for your explanation on how you use a knurling tool ive just bought one for my father in law who runs a small workshop in asia
Ok – That means “Pitch” is the distance between the dents of the knurling tool which i am able to measure.
Thank you very much for the feedback !
You can use a thread pitch guage the same as finding the pitch on a bolt for example.
Hi, this is a helpful “Tutorial”.
Sound sometimes gets a little “overdriven”, it is understandable anyhow.
How do i find out how much pitch my knurling scissors have ?
I often get “dirty” results: multiple rows overlap and destroy the diamonds pattern,
I guess this might have its reason in the diameter.
Thanks for the comment. I couldn’t agree more knowledge is everything.
