TURNING PROJECTS WITH RICHARD RAFFAN / DVD

I’ve just bought my first lathe, and I’m absolutely a beginner. There’s no way that I could duplicate what Richard Raffan accomplishes in these dozen-or-so projects, as he makes all of them look easy. This DVD, however, makes me want to learn how.

Wow, he turns items fast! In only a few minutes, he makes a trivet, a top, a spindle with rings. It’s inspiring.

The instruction is also top notch. The camera person did an excellent job at showing every step with the right amount of detail, and Raffan explains everything clearly. AND with humor; he’s a funny guy, and I’d be happy to hang out with him anytime. (Actually, he reminds me of the technomage from the Babylon 5 and Crusade TV shows.)

Arguably, as a beginner I should be paying attention to the how-to-start videos. But this one — in addition to giving me several examples with which I’ll soon be able to practice — also shows me where I’m headed. Excellent stuff; I wish every how-to video were this well done.
